SOUTH AFRICA v AUSTRALIA
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1998

At East London, March 29. South Africa won by six wickets. Toss: South Africa. International debuts: A. C. Dale, M. J. Di Venuto.

Witless cricket by Australia at a crucial stage wrecked an innings which should have exceeded 250. Law and Waugh scored 50 apiece to take them to 129 for two, but Law's dismissal was quickly followed by the run-outs of Waugh, Blewett and Gilchrist, all within ten overs. Bevan scored 51 not out off 60 balls, but a target of 224 never extended South Africa; they strolled home by six wickets with three overs to spare. Kallis and Cullinan put on 122 in 23 overs, and Cullinan finished unbeaten on 85.

Man of the Match: D. J. Cullinan. Attendance: 14,742.
