INDIA v PAKISTAN Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1998
Toss: India. International debut: Azhar Mahmood. The series made a belated start, after rain prevented any play over the weekend. Atmosphere was distinctly lacking, with only 750 watching on the Monday. The match was reduced to 33 overs a side and the pitch was still damp. India's bowling was spot on after Saeed Anwar, with 46 from 34 balls, and Ijaz Ahmed had taken Pakistan to 80 for one; only tailender Saqlain Mushtaq lifted them past 150. Timing the ball was not easy, but Tendulkar gave impetus to India's chase with a run-a-ball 89, including nine fours and three sixes, and settled the issue by adding 65 in nine overs with Azharuddin. Man of the Match: S. R. Tendulkar. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
