KENYA v SRI LANKA
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1998

Toss: Sri Lanka. International debuts: S. Gupta; K. S. C. De Silva. Kenya's best moments in their first home one-day international came when Edward Odumbe reduced Sri Lanka to seven for two at the beginning of his four expensive overs. He also caught Aravinda de Silva off his brother Maurice's bowling, but by then Sri Lanka were well on their way. They completed victory with nearly 20 overs to spare as Kaluwitharana reached a maiden hundred in limited-overs internationals from 89 balls. Earlier, Muralitharan bowled his off-spin with verve and economy, taking four for 18; Kenya were a feeble 93 for eight, but Hitesh Modi, an accomplished left-hander, and Asif Karim enabled them to double that.

Man of the Match: M. Muralitharan.
