AUSTRALIA v SOUTH AFRICA Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1998
At Faridabad, October 25. South Africa won by two wickets. Toss: Australia. International debut: A. C. Gilchrist. Australia again looked set for a big score, and again faltered, losing their last five for three runs to squander the industry of their early batsmen. Donald took four for nought with his last seven balls, the first victim being wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist, who had flown in to replace the injured Healy. Pinch-hitter Symcox set South Africa on the path to victory after the early loss of Kirsten, and Cullinan guided them home with an unbeaten 71. But they suffered their own late collapse and the margin was merely two wickets. Reiffel, with four for 35, almost stole it for Australia. Man of the Match: A. A. Donald. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
