PAKISTAN v WEST INDIES
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1998

At Sydney, January 18 (day/night). Pakistan won by four wickets. Toss: Pakistan.

Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi won the nickname Kid Dynamite for his explosive batting and devastating fast ball; both were in the groove on this tour, and particularly in this match. He slogged 53 off 54 balls after his leg-spin netted three for 33 to give his side command of a one-sided final. West Indies had started well, with an opening stand of 99. But then they lost seven for 24. Waqar Younis, who had been hampered by a hip injury, found his best form of the summer: with his wicked toe-seeking in-swinger hooping late, he whipped out the middle order and became one of the few bowlers to rock Chanderpaul's stumps. Pakistan jogged home with almost 12 overs to spare.

Attendance: 32,331.
