SOUTH AFRICA v ZIMBABWE Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1998
At Johannesburg, January 31 (day/night). South Africa won by four wickets. Toss: Zimbabwe. Yet again, the resilient Zimbabweans seemed capable of pulling off a surprise win. Forced into a corner at 61 for four, they recovered to reach 256, with handsome contributions from the late order to supplement a half-century from opener Grant Flower. Then Brandes rocked South Africa by firing out their top three as the total limped to 16. But it was the South Africans' turn to stage a recovery. Cronje and Pollock, who scored a career-best 75 from 85 balls, made sure of victory by putting on 137, and Cronje finished the job. Man of the Match: W. J. Cronje. Attendance: 26,224. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
