INDIA v ZIMBABWE Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1998
At Centurion, February 7 (day/night). Zimbabwe won by three wickets, their target having been revised to 171 from 34 overs. Toss: India. Having tied at Paarl 11 days earlier, and once before at Indore in 1993–94, Zimbabwe finally completed their first win over India at the 14th attempt (they had first met in the 1983 World Cup). Play was frequently interrupted by rain, and India never recovered sufficiently from a poor start to manage an imposing total. Still, Zimbabwe's revised target looked unassailable when they were 78 for six. But Evans relaunched their innings with three sixes and a four, out of 43 in 47 balls. Strang also hit out and Streak made short work of scoring the nine needed from the final over. Men of the Match: C. N. Evans and P. A. Strang. Attendance: 8,722. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
