PAKISTAN v SRI LANKA
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1998

At Sharjah, April 4. Sri Lanka won by 19 runs. Toss: Pakistan.

Sri Lanka and Aravinda de Silva cruised onwards. This time, De Silva and Atapattu equalled Sri Lanka's all-wicket record, 184, in 39 overs after joining forces at a perilous four for two. Both fell just short of centuries. In reply, Shahid Afridi, scorer of cricket's fastest international hundred when the two teams met in Nairobi in October, raced to 67 in 55 balls, with four fours and five sixes. Salim Malik added a brisk fifty but the loss of three wickets in four balls at 190 sabotaged their chase, and only Moin Khan kept them going throughout 50 overs.

Man of the Match: P. A. De Silva.
