PAKISTAN v SRI LANKA
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1998

At Sharjah, April 7. Sri Lanka won by 51 runs. Toss: Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka entered the final with their third successive win, while Aravinda de Silva earned his third successive match award. He came in at 11 for two and added 124 with Jayasuriya on his way to his eighth one-day international century. He was dismissed by the final ball of the innings for 134 in 131 balls, with 11 fours and four sixes. Pakistan needed five an over, but only Ramiz Raja and Inzamam-ul-Haq, with 62 in 66 balls, made much headway. Both fell to Muralitharan, whose fellow off-spinner, Dharmasena, finished the job with time to spare.

Man of the Match: P. A. De Silva.
