INDIA v NEW ZEALAND
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1998

At Bangalore, May 14 (day/night). India won by eight wickets. Toss: New Zealand.

Astle almost reached his second century in as many games, scoring 92 in 111 balls, with ten fours, but New Zealand slid from a promising 109 for one to an inadequate final total of 220, with four run-outs. That was due to poor running as much as brilliant fielding. India's batsmen found the New Zealand bowling no trouble at all. Tendulkar and Ganguly put on 169 in 32 overs and Tendulkar continued to complete his 12th century in one-day internationals. He had made 117 from 136 balls, with 13 fours and two sixes, when he was bowled with his team needing only five to win.

Man of the Match: S. R. Tendulkar.
