West Indies v Sri Lanka 1996-97
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1998

At Port-of-Spain, June 6. West Indies won by 35 runs. Toss: Sri Lanka. International debuts: D. Ranmarine, F. L. Reifer. Williams and Lara set the tempo for a formidable total by adding 124 in 22 overs after the pinch-hitters went cheaply. Lara's run-a-ball 67 included six fours and two sixes; Williams hit 12 fours and improved on his career-best for the third straight innings before holing out, ten short of a hundred, to give Jayasuriya one of his five wickets. The closing stages were dominated by an unbeaten 41 in 30 balls from Holder. Sri Lanka made an uncharacteristically slow start, restricted to 28 for two off 11 overs, before Jayasuriya, who had retired hurt, returned to complete a frantic 44 in 28 balls. After he fell, there were defiant fifties by Ranatunga and Dharmasena in a losing cause.
