A winning Barbados captain only three seasons ago and a West Indies wicketkeeper up to last year, Browne makes way for Ricky Hoyte for the match against the Leeward Islands starting tomorrow at Kensington Oval.
Browne made 30 and 32 in a gutsy batting performance against Jamaica on a lively Sabina Park pitch in BarbadosÕ first Cup match.
The second innings knock helped his team to draw the match in which Barbados lost first innings points.
BrowneÕs place as BarbadosÕ first choice wicket-keeper was considered to be under threat after the West Indies selectors chose Hoyte for the recently-ended West Indies ÔAÕ team tour of South Africa.
Hoyte, who at 28 is a year older than Browne, subsequently took up the position behind the stumps in the Red Stripe Bowl limited overs competition.
As the only specialist wicket-keeper in the ÔAÕ team, Hoyte played in every single match on the November 14-January 7 tour, but his batting, in common with the rest of the team, was a disappointment.
ÒHe kept okay but there are areas where he can improve,Ó manager Joel Garner told NATIONSPORT on returning to Barbados.
Two of the other three Barbadians on the ÔAÕ team have been included for the Leewards match. Floyd Reifer and Pedro Collins, one of the few to enhance his reputation, are in the line-up but allrounder Ottis Gibson is missing.
It was not immediately clear whether Gibson has returned to the island and the Barbados Cricket Association release announcing the 13-member squad shed no light on the matter.
Sean Armstrong and Marlon Blagrove, the two players who made the trip to Jamaica and did not play, have been left out.
Squad: Philo Wallace (captain), Sherwin Campbell, Adrian Griffith, Roland Holder, Floyd Reifer, Ricky Hoyte, Winston Reid, Dave Marshall, Patterson Thompson, Pedro Collins, Hattian Graham, Horace Waldron, Ian Bradshaw.
