Jamaica: Erskine to give up top post

Osmond Erskine will not seek a seventh consecutive term as president of the St. James Cricket Association at Sunday's Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held at Gordon's Agency, Kerr Crescent, Montego Bay, starting at 11:00 am.

The Gleaner understands Erskine will make himself available to serve in whatever capacity he can but will not seek the top position.

Grantley Miller, second vice president, confirmed his candidacy for the top post while speaking to the Gleaner on Tuesday and said Secretary Herman Curtis had also announced his intention to vie for the top position.

Owen Brown, a close friend of Erskine and the first vice president for a number of years, also said he would make himself available for any position at Sunday's meeting. Brown, who is still nursing injuries sustained in a car accident earlier this month, said he was not certain he would be able to attend the meeting as he was still confined to his home under doctor's orders. If he would be disqualified from seeking a position because of his absence, Brown said he would make arrangements to be at the meeting.
