Mark of respect

Haslingden skipper Mark Griffin doesn't know too much about tomorrow's Bentgate opponents Rochdale but he is certain of one thing - ``We are in for a very difficult game.''

With a place at stake in the final of the Lees Inter-League Challenge Cup competition, Griffin would expect nothing else, especially from one of the top sides in the Central Lancashire League.

But Haslingden are determined not to end up semi-final losers for the second time in a couple of weeks, following the setback against Colne in the Jennings Worsley Cup.

``We would love to be the first Lancashire League team to win this trophy,'' said the Bentgate skipper.

``A bowl-out cost us our chances last year but at least there is provision for the game to be played at another time if the weather steps in this time.'' Rochdale are challenging for the CLL title and their professional Robbie Baker, due to pro for East Lancs next weekend and in the Worsley Cup final, has run into form of late.

East Lancs take on Bacup in the other semi-final at Alexandra Meadows and, while they will be favourites on their own ground, the visitors are playing with a lot of confidence at the moment.

Brad Young, the East Lancs professional, will be hoping to bow out with a bang before joining up with the Australian A tour party.
