Minor Counties: Shropshire seek silver

SHROPSHIRE are pursuing silverware on two fronts in an effort to commemorate the 25th anniversary of their 1973 title win.

Beaten in last year's MCC Trophy final, they are one game away from booking a return ticket to Lord's. They meet Oxfordshire in the semi-finals next Thursday.

They are also top of the Western Division table after an exciting victory over Berkshire at Bridgnorth.

Bryan Jones (147 not out) and Matt Turner (56 not out) scored the last 75 runs of a 326 target in 56 overs off only 4.4 overs to secure a seven-wicket win with 14 balls left. One over from Jamie Hodgson was clubbed for 27 as the muscular Turner lifted him for 4-4-6-6-6.

Elsewhere in the Western Division, Cornwall have parted company with professional Mark Saxelby. Instead, they have recruited Imraan Mohammed, the Cambridge University all-rounder. Imraan is the son of Sadiq Mohammed, who played for Cornwall in 1984.
