A fine performance from all rounder Gary Herbine powered St. George's College to a convincing 62-run victory over St. Catherine High in the final of the Jackie Hendriks Under-14 cricket competition at Melbourne Oval yesterday.
For St. George's, who also won the title in 1994, Herbine, batting at number six, scored 58 not out and was well supported by Martin Murray with 19 and Osbourne Chin 17.
Bowling for St. Catherine High, Ransford Henry bagged four wickets for 34 runs from 14.5 overs, Horen Whitter two for 26 from eight overs, and Cleon Crooks two for 26 from nine overs.
Batting for St. Catherine, opening batsman Courtney Cato scored a solid 20. None of the other batsmen entered double figures against the bowling of Herbine who capped a good day with figures of four wickets for 22 runs from 12 overs, Nathan Cowan who grabbed two for two from seven deliveries, and Ainsley Deer and Richard Johnson who picked up one wicket each.
