The Holmwood Technical captain and Jamaica President's Cup representative was selected to lead the 14-man squad at the end of the second trial match at Kensington Park yesterday.
The team, which will be managed by Jamaica Cricket Board member Linden Wright and coached by Junior Bennett, includes seven players with previous experience and seven who will be in action for the first time.
The seven players with previous experience are Powell, Wade Allen (Manchester High), Christopher Gayle (Excelsior), Tamar Lambert (Jonathan Grant), Kevin Peart (Holmwood Technical), Matthew Sinclair (Holmwood Technical), and Marlon Samuels (Kingston College) who also represented the senior team.
The first-timers are Barrington Bartley Jnr (St. Andrew Technical), Bevon Brown (St. Catherine High), Sean Cousley (Kingston College), Kamal Dennis (St. Elizabeth Technical), Keith Hibbert (Garvey Maceo), Jermaine Lawson and Rayon Smith (Waterford Comprehensive).
The teams participating in the tournament will be Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Leeward Islands, Windward Islands and defending champions Guyana along with newcomers Canada.
Bermuda was originally scheduled to participate, also for the first time, but pulled out. They will be replaced by a regional team Nortel Development X1.
The Nortel Development X1, which will not be playing for points, will be represented by players selected from the other teams.
Phillip Keating has been selected to represent Jamaica on that team. The selectors also announced four reserves for the Jamaica team. The reserves are Kemar Duncan (Kingston College), Carlton Baugh Jnr, (Wolmer's), Evon McInnis (Holmwood Technical) and Brenton Parchment (St. Elizabeth Technical).
Meanwhile the Tappin Cup knock-out resumes today with the two semi-finals scheduled to start at 12 noon.
Matches on are: Kingston College versus Jonathan Grant High at Lime Tree Oval, St. George's College versus Wolmer's Boys at Emmet Park.
