Scottish Cricket: Aslam brings down GHK

By Keith Graham

16 June 1998

HERIOT'S stayed top of Conference A on Saturday by easily beating GHK at Anniesland. Again it was Shahid Aslam who set up victory by steering his side to 156 for seven with an unbeaten 48 on a poor wicket.

Aslam also snapped up two quick wickets to have GHK in disarray at 15 for four. GHK's captain, Charlie Dunlop, seemed to have become Aslam's third victim when he was bowled, but it was a no-ball. However, Dunlop was immediately run out by Steve Thomson from short leg. Euan McIntyre finally turned the screw, taking four for seven as GHK crumbled to 48 all out.

Grange kept up the chase by beating Dunfermline. A total of 189 for seven was beyond the visitors once Ian Beven entered the attack. He took six for 21 as Dunfermline were skittled out for 90.

In Conference B, West of Scotland stayed top after medium-pacers John Cameron (six for 38) and Mark Gilchrist (four for 31) had dismissed Strathmore for 115, a target passed with eight wickets in hand.

Carlton were too strong for Stoneywood Dyce who, set 122 to win, capitulated to Cedric English (five for 27).

Ayr had the worst of the draw against Prestwick in Conference C while Ferguslie beat Greenock and Edinburgh Accies claimed a first win at Uddingston's expense.

SMALL CLUBS CUP.- 3rd rd draw: Highland v Coupar Angus; Jerviswood v Keith; Leith Franklin Acads v Monklands; Banchory v Fauldhouse; Buckie v Queens Park; Rossie Priory v Artisans; Luncarty v Cults; Townhill v Manderston. Ties to be played June 21.
