Aravinda, Sanath to grace Sri Lanka Day in Essex

The current world's Number One batsman, Aravinda de Silva and top batsman Sanath Jayasuriya will be making an appearance at the first ever Sri Lanka Day in Essex on Sunday July 19, 1998 from 2 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. at St. Elizabeth's Church Hall, Chestnut Avenue, Buchhurst Hill Essex.

It will be and unique opportunity for the cricket loving public in the United Kingdom to meet in person, two of the most exciting batsmen in the world.

The Sri Lanka Day is a charity event aimed at rasing funds for the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka to enable them to purchase sports equipment for needy children in provincial areas of the island. The event has been organised by the people of Essex, the chief co-ordinator is the Rev. Alan Comfort, former professional footballer with Queens Park Rangers, Leyton Orient and Middlesbrough.

The Sri Lanka Day will include a traditional Sri Lankan meal and a stunning Kandyan dance display by the world famous, 15 member Channa-Upuli Dance Ensemble. The group performed in front of His Royal Highness, Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales in February 1998. The event will also stage a photographic exhibition by Sri Lanka's leading photographer Eshan Goonasekera and top artist Don Hubert.
