Tennekoon stars in Raddoluwa's 4th win

RADDOLUWA MV registered their fourth win of the season beating Sri Rahula MV Katugastota by an innings and 80 runs at the Peradeniya Campus grounds yesterday.

Raddoluwa MV piled up 317 for 8 declared with Ruwan Tennekoon striking an entertaining unbeaten 113 with six sixes and a dozen fours while Sanjeeva Arangalla hit a fine 83.

Raddoluwa MV's Nisal Gunatileke has so far taken 75 wickets for the season.

Matale 118/0 in follow-on

MATALE CC who were forced to follow-on, batted sensibly and were 118 for no loss after being bundled out for 230 in reply to Old Cambrians massive 501 in their Saravanamuttu Trophy (Segment 'B') cricket match at Moratuwa yesterday.

Matale CC's Kokila Jayaweera missed a well-deserved century by eight runs, while Senerath Gunasekera made 50, In their second turn, Ravi Punchihewa was unbeaten on 57.

Matale CC 230 (Kokila Jayaweera 92, Senerath Gunasekera 50, Ajantha Gamage 22, Ravi Punchihewa 28, N. Cooray 3 for 25, Suranga Wijenayake 3 for 50, M. Perera 2 for 48) and 118 for no loss at close (Ravi Punchihewa not out 57, Ajantha Gamage not out 42).

Amila Paranamanage - fine record in junior cricket

Amila Niroshan Paranamanage - a year nine student of St. John's Nugegoda, has excelled both in studies and in cricket.

As a 13 year-old, He played cricket for the college in 1994 and captained the team in 1997 and helped St. John's to five out from seven matches in the Horlicks Trophy matches.

A match that St. John's will remember for long is their game against Prince of Wales which they won and Amila scored a fine century-143 while the team got a total of 2533. He also took seven wickets to guide his team to a fine win.

Against Sri Piyaratne Vidyalaya, Padukka, he had a match-bag of 8 wickets and the Sri Piyaratne team were out for 78 and 28 in the turns at the wicket. St. John's also beat Piliyandala MMV. They also beat Henry Olcott Vidyalaya in the second round in a low-scoring affair. After being shot out for 65, Amila bagged 7 wickets to bring victory for the Johnians.

Amila made 29 not out against Mahanama helped St. John's to win, but they lost their second round game to Sri Piyaratne, but Paranamanage made 56 and 61 runs respectively in the two innings.

Amila has shown that he is capable of big things and he is now in the college first eleven cricket team

All finals under lights

Hali Ela Central College will conduct the finals of all sports events under floodlights this week end.

The annual sports festival comprising volleyball, football basketball, netball, cricket and athletics are presently being conducted at the Hali Ela V.C. grounds. The organisers have decided to conduct all finals under floodlights. This is the first time in the history of Uva that a school tournament is being conducted under floodlights.

The Minister of Education and Higher Eduction Richard Pthirana and the Minister of Sports, Youth Affairs and Samurdi S. B. Dissanayake are expected to grace the occasion on the day of the finals.

Cricket sixes highlight Kreeda Lottery today

THE FIRST Kreeda Lottery will be drawn today and to coincide with it, there will be a six-a-side cricket match to be played by four sides that takes in all the Sri Lanka cricketers.

The cricket match will be played at the SSC grounds, Maitland Place. The four teams will be led by Arjuna Ranatunga, Aravinda de Silva, Roshan Mahanama and Sanath Jayasuriya.

Ranatunga's team include Pubudu Dassanayake, Marvan Atapattu, Upul Chandana, Chaminda Vaas, Ruchira Palliyaguru and Pradeep Hewage while Mahanama's team will comprise Romesh Kaluwitharana, Russel Arnold, Avishka Gunawardena, Sajeewa de Silva, Indika de Saram and Hemantha Boteju.

Lanka de Silva, Hashan Tillakaratne, Ruwan Kalpage, Ravindra Pushpakumara, Chandika Haturusinghe and Hemantha Wickremaratne are the other members of De Silva's team while Jayasuriya's side include Prasanna Jayawardena, Mahela Jayawardena, Kumara Dharmasena, Muttiah Muralitharan, Pramodaya Wickremasinghe and Tilan Samaraweera.

There will a total of Rs. 258,000 as prize money for the colourful cricket sixes including Rs. 75,000 to the champion team.
