Bold reply by Mahanama

The inaugural Big Match between President's College Rajagiriya and Mahanama College, Kollupitiya began at the R. Premadasa Stadium yesterday.

Mahanama College won the toss and sent President's College into bat and they scored 267 for 7 wickets declared in 78.4 overs in 310 minutes, and Mahanama College were 92 for 1 wicket by the close in 13.4 overs.

Amila Gunawardene, the deputy skipper of President's College top scored with 83 runs with 11 fours and two sixes while Praneeth Chamara Jayasundera scored 74 runs with 10 fours.

Mahanama Skipper Sampath Rajapakse (38 not out) and Imal Asela (46 runs with 7 fours) batted well for the Kollupitiya school.

Sparkling 140 by Pubudu

A stellar knock of 140 with 19 fours and three sixes by Pubudu Seneviratne helped Dharmaraja College to score 269 for 4 wickets declared in their inter-school cricket match against Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Pannipitiya which began at Lake View grounds yesterday.

The match will be continued today at 9.30 a.m.

Pubudu Seneviratne with a wide range of strokes put on 227 runs for the third wicket with consistent bat Yasas Jayasundera who was unfortunate to miss his century scoring 93 with 13 fours. Pubudu Seneviratne also became the first schoolboy from Kandy to reach 900 runs this season. He has now scored 990 runs - just 10 runs away from the coveted 1000.

At close Palians have replied with 108 for 1 but their star bat S. Devapura is back in the pavilion scoring 31.

Dharmaraja College: 269 for 4 decl. in 70.2 overs 265 mts. (Yasas Jayasundera 93, Pubudu Seneviratne 140, S. Ranasinghe 12, S. Devapura 2 for 51).

Drawn match at Ibbagamuwa

An opening stand of 161 between A. Herath 81 (11 fours, 2 sixes) and D. Ratnayake 61 not out (9 fours) for Ibbagamuwa Central College was the highlight of their inter-school cricket match against Dharmaraja College 'A' which ended in a draw at Ibbagamuwa yesterday.

Ibbagamuwa Central who were 62 for 7 at one stage in the first innings recovered through a fine last wicket stand of 95 between K. Somaratne 53 (2 sixes, 6 fours) and S. Palletenna 33 not out (1 six, 3 fours).

Rajans were set a victory target of 253 in 43 overs but they did not make an attempt and they were quite content in playing out time.

Ibbagamuwa Central College 216 all out in 51 overs (S. Gamage 17, S. Ratnapala 41, D. Ratnayake 22, K. Somaratne 53, A. Palletenna 33 not out, G. L. Jayasinghe 3 for 18, K. Jayasundera 6 for 61) and 161 for 1 decl in 36 overs (D. Ratnayake 61 not out, A. Herath 81).

Royal replying to D.S. Senanayake's 167 for 9 declared, scored 303 for 5 declared. D.S. Senanayake ended the match at 253 for 7 in their second innings.

Fast bowler S. Ekanayake took 6 for 86 for St. Mary's, Kegalle on the first day of their schools cricket match against Moratu Vidyalaya which began at Moratuwa yesterday.

Moratu Vidyalaya were dismissed for 227 and St. Mary's in reply were 61 for 2 at the close.
