Madugalle match ref for England-West Indies ODI's

Former Sri Lanka captain Ranjan Madugalle will be the International Cricket Council (ICC) match referee for the five-match one-day international series between England and West Indies starting later this month in the Caribbean.

England and West Indies are currently engaged in a six-Test series where the host country is leading 2-1 (1 abandoned) after four matches. Former Australian Test wicket-keeper Barry Jarman is the ICC appointed match referee for the series.

Madugalle will replace him for the one-day series which begins at Bridgetown, Barbados on March 29. The second one-day game will also be played at the same venue on April 1. The third and fourth one-day games are scheduled at St. Vincent on April 4 and 5 and, the fifth and final one-day at Port of Spain on April 8.

This will be Madugalle's first trip to the Caribbean. Ever since being first appointed ICC match referee for the series against Zimbabwe in Pakistan in 1993, Madugalle has officiated in this capacity in New Zealand, Sharjah, England and Australia.

Perera spins out SSC for 257

Antonian SC left-arm spinner Gamini Perera took 5 for 65 to dismiss SSC for 257 on the first day of their division I Sara trophy (Segment 'A') cricket match played at S. Thomas' College grounds, Mt Lavinia yesterday.

By the close, Antonians had replied with 40 for 2. The match continues today at 9.45 a.m.

A fine allround performance by Pradeep Hewage 162 and 4 for 56 and a hard hit 94 by wicket keeper Rally Tissera helped St. Benedict's to beat St. Anne's, Kurunegala, by an innings and 67 runs at Kotahena yesterday.
