At the Bogra Stadium, Chapainawabganj thrashed Tangail by ten wickets while Comilla handed Mymensingh a crushing eight-wicket defeat at the Dhaka Stadium. On the final day of the three-day final, Chapainawabganj, needing only 23 runs in their second innings to win the match, managed the required runs without losing any wicket. Tangail, who scored 187 runs in the first innings and resumed their second innings on Friday with 21 for two, were shot out for only 70 runs adding a further 49 which left Chapainawabganj, who piled up a huge 235 in their first innings, with the simple task of scoring 23 runs to clinch the match.
In another match, an unbeaten half-century from in-form batsman Dickens guided Comilla to a convincing eight-wicket win over Mymensingh. Dickens hammered 54 runs as Comilla, needing only 111 in their second innings for the victory, went on to score 114 in 35.5 overs with eight wickets in hand. Dickens apart, opener Anis, who notched a dazzling 62 in the first inning to help his side score 206, continued with his superb performance adding 39 runs.
Earlier, in the morning, Mymensingh, who scored only 141 runs in the first innings and resumed their second innings on the final day on 108 for five from 28 overs, added a further 67 runs to their total before they were all out prior to lunch in the penultimate delivery of the 51st over. Former national cricketer Saiful Islam scored highest 27 while Selim and Mohammad scored 25 and 21 runs respectively.
With the two finals, the 15-day long zonal rounds came to an end. A total of 45 teams from districts and other organisations took part in the qualifiers which were split into five zones. The winners of the five zones - Khulna, Rajshahi, Comilla, Chapainawabganj and Narayanganj will join the four semi-finalists of last year Chittagong, Dhaka, Biman and Dhaka University - and hosts Sylhet in the final round which begins in the land of Shah Jalal from May 22.
