National cricket - Rajshahi in quarterfinals

Rajshahi moved into the quarterfinals of the 24th national cricket championship with a facile 49-run win over Khulna at the Sylhet Stadium yesterday.

On the inaugural day of the ten-team final round, Nayan hammered highest 33 as Rajshahi, opting to bat in a rain-reduced 25-a-side-match, scored 100 for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted overs. Nayan apart, Ranak added 16 runs.

In reply, Khulna were restricted to 51 for nine in 25 overs. Tareque captured three for six. Besides, Saad took two wickets for 10 runs.

Tuhin's 24 was the only notable Khulna score.

In the quarterfinals, scheduled on May 28, Rajshahi will meet either Dhaka or the hosts.

Earlier, State Minister for Youth and Sports Obaidul Quader declared the meet open in the morning.
