BKSP boys best in Dhaka

Bangladesh Krira Shikkaha Protisthan (BKSP) celebrated their smooth passage into the final round of the 16th national schools cricket championship with massive 114-run demolition of Scholastica in the Dhaka zone final at the Dhaka Stadium yesterday.

The match, which only had an academic interest, turned out to be one-way traffic when BKSP, defending a commanding total of 216 for eight in the stipulated 40 overs, shot the reputed English medium institution out for a meagre 102 with one ball to go.

Earlier, the BKSP total was built around a dazzling 58 from Nasirul Alam. Nasir apart, Zahid scored an useful 32 and Rifat chipped in with 27. For Scholastica, Russel captured three wickets for 39 runs. He was ably supported by Aziz, who also claimed three wickets giving away 45 runs.

Scholastica, in their chase, found the going tough right from the start in the face of some aggressive bowling from the boys of the sports centre. Kabir with two for only seven runs was the pick among the BKSP bowlers. Besides, Razzak, Monir and Farid evenly shared six wickets among them.

Although BKSP, with this impressive victory, emerged champions from Dhaka zone, the winners along with Scholastica and the two losing semifinalists - Maple Leaf and Willes Little Flower School - had earlier confirmed their places in the final round by virtue of making it to the last four.
