Leicestershire have extended manager Jack Birkenshaw's contract into
the next millennium. Chief executive David Collier said he was
delighted Birkenshaw had accepted an extension to his existing deal to
take in the 1999 and 2000 seasons. 'Jack is widely respected in the
first-class game as one of the best cricket managers in the country,'
said Collier. ``Not only has Jack been instrumental in the playing
success of our first Xl, he has also played a very important role in
our youth development programme.''
