Padmore defeat Clifton in final

Defending champions Padmore defeated Clifton by 55 runs to retain their Carib Cement All-Age cricket title for the parish of St. Andrew at Melbourne Oval yesterday.

It was Padmore's third consecutive victory while Clifton reached the final for the first time since entering the competition three years ago.

The St. Andrew champions batted first and made 132 for eight off their allotted 35 overs. Padmore were struggling at 67 for five before the lower-order batsmen stepped up the scoring.

Roderick Swaby was the top scorer for Padmore with 30 not out, Deano Cunningham 18, Kishroy Flemmings 18, Howard Hamilton 15 and Kemar Brown 12, while Garfield Parks (3-19) and Roderick Campbell (2-28) were the successful bowlers for Clifton.

Clifton started badly as the first four batsmen were sent back with only 15 runs on the board. They did not recovered from the early setback and were bowled out for 77 off 27 overs.

Only Royland Roberts 34 (five fours) reached double figures, as Durale Forrest took two for seven, Dwayne Stewart two for 13 and Flemming two for 13.

Meanwhile, Tarrant defeated Duhaney Park by 34 runs to win the St. Andrew Primary School title. Tarrant made 107 for six off their 21 overs with Omar Reynolds making 35 and Leon Clachar 15 not out. Oraine Bennett with three for 16 and Shawn Gilbert (2-11) took the bulk of the wickets.

Duhaney Park replied with 73 for nine off 21 overs. Shawn Morgan made 25 while Reynolds captured four for seven.
