Ranasinghe to hold regular coaching camps
By Kandy South Group Cor.
FORMER Upcountry, Dharmaraja, and Sri Lanka Schools wicket keeper batsman Harold Ranasinghe who was appointed as the honorary secretary of the Kandy District Cricket Association recently has many plans to promote and develop cricket in the hill capital, especially among the smaller schools and in the villages.
Harold Ranasinghe told this correspondent that regular coaching camps for cricket coaches will be held with the assistance of the cricket Board and the District Cricket coach Sunil Fernando. These cricket coaches could in turn go to their respective areas and impart the knowledge they had gained to the little ones. By producing more coaches, the gospel of cricket could reach a wider area. By this more schools could take to cricket from the lesser known areas.
He also paid a tribute to the Director of Coaching of the Cricket Board Malcolm Perera who has volunteered to provide whatever assistance to develop cricket in the back woods of Kandy.
Harold Ranasinghe said that there will be also seminars and refresher courses for cricket umpires which in turn raise the standard of umpiring in the hill capital.
There are also moves to conduct more tournaments for clubs and schools so that the KDCA will be active throughout the year, and not be content in conducting only the traditional tournaments and remain inactive for major part of the year. The asst. secretary of KDCA M. Zarook has been of tremendous assistance to Harold Ranasinghe in his endeavours.
