John Seedle will return to Rishton next season to skipper the Lancashire League club.

The all-rounder, who was captain of Central Lancs League side Stand last summer, replaces Russell Whalley, who is expected to join the professional ranks probably at Oswaldtwistle Immanuel.

Rishton chairman Rod Simpson said: ``Russell has told us that he hopes to take a professional's job and we felt we had to act as quickly as possible so that a new captain could look at strengthening the team.

``We are delighted John is returning to the club, he is a very experienced cricketer with all the qualifications for the job.

``Russell has no problems with it and told me that if he does not get a professional appointment he will be more than happy to play under John's captaincy.''

Ribblesdale League side Immanuel are leading the chase to name Whalley as their professional but chairman Stuart Hindle said: ``There's nothing materialised as yet. We are waiting to see what happens at the meeting on Monday.

``We are looking at one or two names but we have not come up with any positive results yet.

``We have been looking at Duncan Catterall who played for Leyland last year and we've also been talking to Lancashire.

``We are trying to stay local if we can rather than going for an overseas man.

``I have spoken to Russell Whalley and he has expressed an interest and his is one of the names which will be in the pot.''
