Lancaster Park-Woolston retained its lead in the WestpacTrust Cup women's one-day cricket competition by demolishing St Albans Gold.

In other games on Saturday South Canterbury comprehensively beat Marist to hold second place while East-Shirley moved into third place with an exciting win over St Albans Blue.

The St Albans Gold v Lancaster Park match did not begin until noon because of ground conditions at Garrick Park.

Asked to bat first, St Albans failed to establish any lasting partnerships. Jo Lawler made a useful 33, but the ninth-wicket stand of 20 between Missy Moffat and Hannah Rae was its biggest.

With Lisa Astle's medium-pacers picking up four for 14, St Albans was dismissed in the 48th over for 132.

Lancaster Park-Woolston's accomplished top-order made short work of reaching its target. Paula Flannery and Debbie Hockley put on 72 for the first wicket with Astle and Hockley adding the necessary 62 for the second.

In Timaru the South Canterbury innings was held together by Sarah Helmore who featured in a 55-run partnership with Lauren Cormick for the second wicket and 49 with Haidee Tiffen for the third as the home side reached 175 for six.

The chase began disastrously for Marist when it was teetering at three for three. It got to 23 for five before a valuable 61-run partnership between Fleur Park and Anna Smith restored some respectability for a total of 126.

At Burwood Park St Albans Blue was given a sound start by Carrie Murdoch and Melissa Carmont who put on 59 for the first wicket. With Nicola Payne scoring an accomplished 47, St Albans reached 148 for eight in its 50 overs.

East-Shirley openers Marcia Scotson and Anna Wilkins set a solid platform with a 50-run opening stand, and all the middle-order made double figure contributions.

Short scoreboards:

St Albans Gold 132 (J Lawler 33; L Astle 4-14) lost to Lancaster Park-Woolston 134-1 (D Hockley 53no, P Flannery 39). Umpire: A Barclay.
