Some surprises in the South Africa's Squad
By Bob Dubery

The SA Selectors have named a squad of 12, including one uncapped
player, for the first Test match against the West Indies.
Terbrugge is the potential new cap. He's a tall, young (21 years old)
pace bowler who made his debut for the Gauteng senior side last
season. He immediately showed promise but seemed injury prone as well.
This season he is stronger, fitter and has improved his line and
length whilst giving up just a little speed.
Given that there are only three pace bowlers in the side, Terbrugge
seems certain to play. The choice of twelfth man may be decided by the
balance of the West Indian batting line up. Adams has not been in good
form this season, but he may still play if the West Indians pick a
predominantly right-handed batting line up.
Symcox's form has been good this season. His last Test match was
against Pakistan last season, and he fulfilled his own pre-season
prophecy and saved South Africa from certain defeat by scoring a
maiden Test century.
Since then the 38 year old war-horse has sat on the sidelines for 9
consecutive tests, but seems likely to make his return to the Test
arena on Thursday.
Shaun Pollock, who captained the successful Commonwealth Games side,
has been elevated to the vice-captaincy in place of Gary Kirsten.
The squad is:
Hansie Cronje (captain), Shaun Pollock (vice-captain), Gary Kirsten,
Adam Bacher, Jacque Kallis, Daryll Cullinan, Jonty Rhodes, Mark
Boucher, Pat Symcox, Allan Donald, Paul Adams, David Terbrugge.
