JOHANNESBURG, Nov 22 (AFP) - South African selectors on Sunday recalled
veteran offspinner Pat Symcox and picked uncapped fast bowler David Terbrugge
in a 12-man squad for the first Test against the West Indies starting here
Thursday.
All-rounder Shaun Pollock was promoted to vice-captain after Gary Kirsten
said he did not wish to continue with the job. Pollock's selection follows his successful leadership of South Africa's
winning Commonwealth Games team earlier this year.
Symcox, 38, is one of two spinners in the team, with left-armer Paul Adams
retained despite poor form. Terbrugge, 21, won his call-up after impressive performances for Gauteng
province.
Squad: Gary Kirsten, Adam Bacher, Jacques Kallis, Daryll Cullinan, Hansie
Cronje (capt), Jonty Rhodes, Marck Boucher, Shaun Pollock (vice-capt), Pat Symcox, Paul Adams, Alan Donald, David Terbrugge.
