Sri Lanka: Colts celebrate with double-wicket tourney

COLOMBO, Nov. 14 (Lankapuvath) - The Colombo Colts Cricket Club has organised a double-wicket invitational tournament as the main attraction in a series of events to mark its 125th anniversary.

CCC's President Gamini Goonesena said at a news briefing at the club pavilion in Colombo, Thursday evening that this tournament, featuring 12 teams and comprising national players, will be held on November 21-22 at the club grounds.

He said that with trophies and cash prices totalling Rs. 55,000 on offer, this tournament will be played on round-robin basis according to the laws of cricket and ICC code of conduct and regulations.

Two players each from the 12 teams will bat and bowl for eight six-ball overs, with a wicket-keeper and eight fielders provided to the fielding side by the organisers.

The main sponsor for the event is East-West Marketing (Private) Limited while The Traveller, National Savings Bank, Coca-Cola, Pepsi Cola, Ceylon Cold Stores, Ceylon Breweries are also contributing, Goonesena said.

Deputy Minister of Sports, Jeevan Kuamratunga will be the chief guest on the occasion while High Commissioners of all ICC member countries have also been invited.

A ladies seven-a-side cricket tournament, a golden oldies tournament and an annual dance are among the other parts of celebrations by Colts which was founded in 1873.
