Champs BRC rewarded

Division II cricket champions BRC have been rewarded with a one-week tour to India from November 15.

The team comprises: Saliya Jayasundara (captain), Romesh Weerakoon, Nalanda Pushpakumara, Manoj Hettiaratchi, Amal Wanigasekera, Amila Perera, Shantha Fonseka, Chamikara Mudalige, Sanjeeva Rajapakse, Vidura Algama, Chamila Priyadarshana, Indika Perera, Shamilal Hashim, Sathya Jayasuriya (manager/coach).

BRC will play National Stadium CC on November 18, Delhi Blues CC on November 19 and Roshanara Club on November 22 during their short tour.

The tour has been arranged by Kumar Weerasooriya, a member of BRC who is now based in New Delhi.

BRC won the division II title for 1997-98 beating NCC (quarter-finals), Bloomfield (semi-finals) and CCC (final).

They qualify to play in 'semis'

NCC and SSC from Group 'A' and, Colts and CCC from Group 'B' have qualified to play in the semi-finals of the division I, Under 23 cricket tournament by finishing one-two in their respective groups.

NCC finished on top of Group 'A' with 45.3 points with SSC second on 44.7 points. Colts headed Group 'B' with 51.0 points followed by CCC with 46.4 points.

Despite their first innings win over Bloomfield last weekend, Galle CC (45.1 points) were edged out by CCC in the final standings.

The semi-final line up for November 20 is: NCC v CCC at Reid Avenue, and SSC v Colts at NCC grounds. The winners of these games will meet in the final at the SSC on November 27. All matches are of three days duration.

The winning team will receive Rs. 100,000 and the runner-up, Rs. 75,000. The two losing semi-finalists stand to collect Rs. 20,000 each.

Individual prizes comprise Rs. 10,000 each for Man of the tournament (with materials), Man of the Final, Best Batsman and Best Bowler.

Evenly poised

Maris Stella was 105 for 2 in reply to President's College 171 in their inter-school match which began in Negombo, yesterday.
