Royal well placed

Royal were in a strong position on the opening day of their inter-school cricket encounter against Thurstan begun at Reid Avenue yesterday.

Having bowled out Thurstan for 170, Royal made 150 for 3 at close.

Sri Lanka 'A' to England next year

A Sri Lanka 'A' team will make a 13-match tour of England next year from July 4 to August 20, the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka announced yesterday.

The tour will include 4-day matches against Lancashire, Northamptonshire, Essex, Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and MCC, a 3-day game against ECB XI, a 5-day game against Denmark (which is to be confirmed) and one-day matches against New Zealand, Gloucestershire, Durham, FCC Select, and Somerset.

Shantha, Mahela centuries

Shantha Kalavitigoda and Mahela Jayawardene scored unbeaten centuries apiece and shared in an unfinished third wicket stand of 194 runs to put SSC in a strong position at the end of the first day of their 3-day Under 23, division I semi-final against Colts at the NCC grounds yesterday.

Kalavitigoda was 117 not out scored in 347 minutes off 238 balls with 11 fours, and Jayewardene, on 103 not out in 269 minutes off 185 balls with one six and 10 fours, as SSC finished on an impressive 272 for two at the close.

The match continues at 10 a.m. today.

CCC 217/7

CCC, batting first, made 217 first 7 at close on the opening day of the Cricket Board Under-23 division 1 tournament three-day semi final against NCC begun at Bloomfield grounds yesterday.
