WICB explain visa snag

The West Indies Board has offered an explanation for the ``A'' team's embarrassment in India earlier this week.

When the 17-member squad arrived after its four-match programme in Bangladesh, they were detained for almost four hours at the Sahara Airport because they were without the visas needed to permit entry.

Official interventions were needed for the team to proceed into the city.

Board Secretary Andrew Sealy said yesterday that the normal practice was for ``the local authorities to issue a group visa for the entire team on arrival''.

``Something went wrong somewhere along the way,'' he added, ``but the problem has been solved and everybody has been issued with an individual visa.''
