At a solemn ceremony held in Marawila in the Puttalam District, to mark the fourth death anniversary of the late Gamini Dissanayake, a former President of the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka, a glowing tribute was paid in his memory by Mrs. Gwen Herat, President of Women's Cricket Assoc. of Sri Lanka and President, Puttalam DCA, Mrs.Herat said: Mr. Gamini Dissanayake was an extraordinary man with a vision to the future not only as a leader but as a dynamic cricket administrator likeness of which we will never find. He would have most certainly have headed the International Cricket Conference today. He put Sri Lanka cricket on the international map and was instrumental in gaining Test status for our country. His efforts and dedication were genuine and was responsible in taking competitive cricket to the rural by forming DCAs.

He guided and inspired me to take up to cricket administration and under his training I am what I am today. He encouraged me to write books on the game and in the process I carved out a name for myself. Gamini had a way of doing things. He knew to extract the best from people and use their talent. That was his leadership', Mrs. Herat concluded.

Several others too spoke about cricket and his dedication after which seventy five selected people were gifted with spectacles in his memory.

Mrs. Herat also suggested that Asgiriya Stadium of which he was the architect should be named Gamini Dissanayake International Stadium, for his contribution to local and international cricket.
