Captain Brian Lara said that the selectors decided they would not risk Lambert for the game, the winner of which will meet India in a semifinal on Saturday.

Lara said a decision would be made before the match on whether they would leave out a fast bowler out of the 12 and play an extra spinner.

Spinners Neil McGarrell, Rawl Lewis and Carl Hooper are in the team.

If they all play, medium-pacer Phil Simmons seems likely to partner either Nixon McLean or Mervyn Dillon with the new ball.

Coach Malcolm Marshall suggested that the conditions appeared to be much more in favour of batsmen and the slower bowlers, and hesitated to make any pronouncements about the importance of the toss, since all the match winners so far were teams batting last, until yesterday's victory by India over Australia.

``Obviously we'll have to look at the wicket first, and see the conditions that prevail,'' Marshall said.

He said he was happy with the preparation for the tournament which has a straight knockout format.

``All the guys have actually performed quite well in the nets. We practised at two different grounds, the first one at the university grounds and the second one was a lot closer in ‘conditions' to what we are actually going to play on,'' Marshall said.

The Pakistanis are coming off their historic Test series defeat against Australia and could be ready for the taking, but West Indies team manager Clive Lloyd is not under-estimating Pakistan's spirit.

``One-Day cricket is a bit different actually,'' Loyd said. ``It's obvious that they would be wounded, but I am sure that they would want to do well here.''
