Steve Waugh has returned to number one place on the Test batting rankings released by PriceWaterhouseCoopers (the former Coopers & Lybrand) on Monday, displacing Sachin Tendulkar to second position.

The ratings have been updated following the First Test between Pakistan and Australia at Rawalpindi, and the one-off Test between Zimbabwe and India at Harare. Waugh (849 pts) scored 157 in Australia's innings win over Pakistan, while Tendulkar (821 pts) lost thirty points when he made 34 and 7 in India's loss to Zimbabwe. Century-maker Rahul Dravid (804 pts) jumps to third place ahead of Brian Lara (790) while Saeed Anwar (752) is now fifth. Zimbabwe's Murray Goodwin has advanced to thirteenth position.

On the bowling rankings, there was some minor shuffling of places among positions six to eleven. Glenn McGrath actually lost four points following the Rawalpindi Test but retains third place. Allan Donald continues in front followed by Curtly Ambrose.
