State Services cricket awards on 6 October

Sri Lanka State Services Cricket Association will hold their 90th annual prize distribution and annual general meeting on October 6 at 3.30 pm at the Police Pavilion. The winners of the 1996/1997 tournaments are:

'A' division - winners Police, runners-up; Telecom;
'B' division: Winners Police, runners-up: Health Department;
'C' division: Winners Police, runners-up Tea Smallholdings;
'D' division: Winners Government Press, runners-up: Customs;
45 over k-o tourney: Winners Police, runners-up: Customs;
30 over k-o tourney: Winners Health Department, runners-up: University of Moratuwa.

Rain forces 'no-decision'

Rain forced a 'no decision' in the schools Coca Cola Bottlers Trophy cricket tournament match between St. Joseph's College, Colombo and Dharmaraja College which concluded at Lake View Grounds, Kandy yesterday.

Several interruptions due to rain which permitted play only for 170 minutes during which time the Rajans advanced their score from 44 for no loss to 133 for 3 when a heavy shower just before the close ended proceedings.

Scores:

St. Joseph's College: 300 for 8 decl.

Dharmaraja College: 133 for 3 wickets in 60.2 overs, 230 minutes
(H. Ratnayake 25, Asanka Marapana 49, Yasas Jayasundera 23 not out, S. Ranasinghe 19, I. Hettiarachchi 2 for 15).

Subodha Jayawardene 101 not out

A captain's knock of 101 not out with 10 fours by Subodha Jayawardene for St. Anne's College, Kurunegala was the highlight of their inter-school cricket match against St. Anthony's College which ended in a no decision at Katugastota yesterday.

St. Anne's College 176 for 7 decl. in 90 overs
(S. Mendis 20, Subodha Jayawardena 101 not out, S. Rohana 16, A. B. Amunugama 2 for 29).

St. Anthony's College 92 for 3 wkts in 36 overs
(R. Wickremapala 33, S. Jayaratne 14, A. S. Pinnaduwa 23, N. Nizam 11 not out, R. Deen 10 not out).
