Ace tourney on turf

One of the salient features of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) trophy tournament which is currently held in Kathmandu, Nepal, is that for the first time, the matches are being played on turf wickets.

This has been made possible by Thilanga Sumathipala, the ACC president whose vision is to develop cricket in the Asian region.

All previous tournaments in this series were played on Astro turf pitches.

The tournament is being run by the ACC of which Saliya Ahangama, is the secretary and Nuski Mohamed, the treasurer. Carlton Bernadus has been appointed the development officer of the ACC.

Ten countries are participating in the tournament - Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, UAE, Nepal, Japan, Maldives, Thailand and Brunei.

The winners of this tournament qualify to play in the Asia Cup with India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Bangladesh won the ACC tournament last year beating UAE in the final.
