Wills International Cup: Tickets go on sale on 20 October

The tickets of the Wills International Cup, to be held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium from October 24, will go on sale from October 20, Tanveer Mazhar Islam Tanna, a Bangladesh Cricket Board vice-president and member-secretary of the ticket and seating sub-committee said yesterday.

IFIC Bank has bought the rights to sell tickets through its 12 branches in the capital. The bank, which also sold tickets of the Second Asian Cup in Dhaka way back in 1988, bid the highest 30 lakh Taka ahead of two other banks - City and Al-Baraka who offered 2.5 million each.

According to Mr. Islam, the name of the branches will be announced today.

In order to avoid any security leaks, the Bangladesh Cricket Board will use hologram image on the tickets for the first time. The hologram will carry the BCB logo.

The rate of the tickets for each of the eight matches are:

Western gallery - Tk 150,
Eastern gallery- Tk 120,
VIP - Tk 1500,
Club house (west) - Tk 1200,
Club house (east) - Tk 1000,
International gallery (for foreigners only) - Tk 750.

Besides, BCB has also prepared 16 air-conditioned and 24 non air-conditioned hospitality boxes which have already been sold at the rate of Tk 2.5 and two lakh respectively.

The day-night knock-out tournament involving nine Test playing nations will begin with the inaugural match between New Zealand and Zimbabwe which is considered as the only pre-quarterfinal of the eight-match tournament.

The next match, the first quarterfinal, will be played on October 25 between England and South Africa while World Champions Sri Lanka will meet the winners of the first match between New Zealand and Zimbabwe in the second quarterfinal on October 26.

After a day of break on October 27, the evening of which the official dinner will be hosted, India will meet Australia in the third quarterfinal on October 28 followed by the last quarterfinal between Pakistan and West Indies on October 29. The two semifinals are billed for October 30 and 31 while the final will be played on November 1.

Asif Iqbal, the former Pakistan Test captain and the event-manager of the Wills International Cup, will arrive in the capital today from Sharjah. This time Asif will stay until the tournament ends on November 1.
