Cricket camp under Greenidge resumes

The national cricket camp for the forthcoming ACC trophy, to be held in Nepal from October 3, will resume at the BKSP from tomorrow under the supervision of Bangladesh's Director of Coaching Gordon Greenidge. Thirty-one cricketers will move tonight to BKSP while 14 others, who are now in Malaysia to take part in the 16th Commonwealth Games, will join them on their return.

The camp for the ACC trophy and Commonwealth Games began at the BKSP from September 17 and continued up to September 30 before giving the boys a five-day break.

Twelve teams, split into two groups, will take part in the ACC trophy. Favourites Bangladesh, the winners of the last five editions of the trophy, have been pencilled into group A along with Papua New Guinea (PNG), Brunei, Singapore, Maldives and Malaysia.

In their inaugural group A match, defending champions Bangladesh will take on PNG on the opening day while their next match against Malaysia is scheduled for the following day. The holders will take on Maldives on October 6, Brunei on October 7 before appearing in their last group match against Singapore on October 9.

The other group comprises of United Arab Emirates (UAE), Fiji, Hong Kong, hosts Nepal, Japan and Thailand.

Top two finishers from each group will play in the criss-cross semi-final to be held on October 11 and 12. The final, winners of which will qualify for the seventh Asia Cup to be held in Dhaka early next year, will be played on October 13.

The following 31 cricketers have been asked to report to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) member Ali Ahsan Babu at the Bangabandhu Stadium today at 4 pm:

Ehsanul Haque, Parvez Ahmed, Sajjad Ahmed, Javed Omar Belim, Hannan Sarkar, Al-Shahriar, Sanwar Hossain, Mehrab Hossain, Habibul Bashar, Ridwan Hassan, Nasirul Islam, Hasanuzzaman, Rashidul Haque, Atiar Rahman, Fahim Muntasir, Tawhid Hussain, Mafizur Rahman Munna, Enamul Haque, Tanveer Khan, Zakir Hasan, Zakir Hossain, Ahsanullah, Tahmid Bashir, Harun-ur Rashid, Mohammad Mortuza, Sajal Chowdhury, Ahmed Kamal, Timir, Bhola, Bappi and Shuvro.
