Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is actively considering the appointment of a new captain for the national team to the forthcoming Pepsi ACC trophy to be held at Kathmandu, Nepal, from October 3. This was disclosed by a source close to the BCB.

The source, who opted to remain anonymous, said that the board is looking for a new captain because it has lost faith on Akram after the team's recurring poor performance in international matches including the recent 16th Commonwealth Games.

He also revealed to the Daily Star that to establish discipline in the team, there is consensus for a change in the leadership.

Akram's deputy Aminul Islam and former skipper Faruque Ahmed are strong bets for Akram's shoes provided the Chittagonian actually loses his job.
