The match is being played in preparation for the World Cup tournament. The players have been training for the past few months and many good performances are expected.

The match is being sponsored by the Ceylon Hardware Merchants' Association and the winning team will be awarded a challenge trophy donated by the association.

Special awards will be made to the best performers. Endeavours are being made to have some of the Sri Lankan cricket stars as guests of honour and to distribute the awards.

Blind musicians are scheduled to provide entertainment during the breaks.
