THIRTY three clubs from the Kandy District have entered the Division III cricket tournament which will be conducted by the Kandy District Cricket Association on behalf of the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka and is expected to commence shortly.

These clubs have been grouped into 8 groups with the group leaders going into the quarter-finals. The Regional champions will qualify to play in the second round of this tournament.

At the fixtures meeting held at the Asgiriya pavilion Mr. Deva Amunugama of Old Trinitians SC and a Vice President of the Kandy District CA brought to the notice of the Organising Committee that for the first time the participating clubs have been called upon to pay the umpires fees. He said this is not fair as some of the clubs can ill afford to do so. Therefore he pleaded that in the best interest in the promotion and development of cricket that the organisers as in the past should make the payment to umpires.

The honorary secretary of the KDCA Mr. Harold Ranasinghe said that this matter will receive top priority and would be referred to both the KDCA and the Kandy Regional Cricket Board to explore the possibility of meeting this expenditure. Also associated at this discussion were M. Zarook and Senaka Niyangoda.

The groupings are:

Group A: Saracens CC, Old Antonians SC, Ekamuthu SC, Bankers SC.

Group B: Kandy Youths CC, Vinco SC, Old Vidyarthians SC, Digana CC.

Group C: Peradeniya University, Malwatte SC, Liverpool SC, National SC Gampola.

Group D: Galagedera CC, Kandy Blues, Universal CC, Sutherland SC.
