Colombo North (Outer) clinch title

Colombo North (Outer) clinched the BCCSL Under 15 Regional trophy beating Kandy Region by 66 runs at the limited over final played at the NCC grounds yesterday.

In reply to the Colombo (outer) 194 for 9 in their stipulated 50 overs, the Kandy team were 128 for 9 in their 50 overs.

The Colombo North (outer) team comprised three players from De Mazenod College Kandana, Joseph Vaz Wennapuwa, Maris Stella Negombo and Basilica College Ragama.

The Colombo team batting first were giving a fine start by Roshan Fonseka (22) and Terence Fernando (39) who put on 66 runs for the first wicket. Another useful 42 by Ishan Muthalif and Hadley Jayawardena's 18 helped the side to reach 194. For the Kandy team Prasad Ranawaka was the top wicket-taker (3 for 29).

In reply the Kandy Region team lost their way with four of their top order batsmen being run out. Besides Prasad Ranawaka's allround effort the rest failed. But a last-wicket stand of 30 between Sujith Perera and Manjula Herath took the score from 98 for 9 to their final 128.

The President of the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka Thilanga Sumathipala was the chief guest.
