Sri Lanka: Suraj de Alwis - 1000 runs The Daily News - 18 April 1999 De Mazenod skipper Suraj de Alwis has had a wonderful season with both bat and ball in the inter-school cricket season which has just ended. He reached 1000 runs this season and has also taken 47 wickets during the season which makes him one of the top allrounders. He scored two centuries - 107 versus Raddoluwa and 108 against St. Aloysius. Suraj's half centuries have been against President's College 74, Richmond College 80, Joseph Vaz 84 in the first innings and 61 in the second innings, St. Benedict's College 66, Dharmasoka College 84. In bowling, his performances have been - 4 for 29 against St. Joseph's, 5 for 27 against St. Sebastian's, 6 for 32 against St. Aloysius, 4 for 39 versus Kalutara MV, 5 for 33 against Isipatana. Suraj de Alwis has shown tremendous improvement over the years. In the 1997-98 season, he scored 850 runs and took 50 wickets, then in the 1996-97 season, he scored 828 runs and took 46 wickets. He also turned out for Gampaha District in the under 23 cricket tournament and claimed 4 for 19 against Colombo 'A' which comprised five cricketers who toured South Africa.
