Sri Lanka Schools: Nalandians regain Dr N M Perera trophy
The Daily News - 5 April 1999

Nalanda beat their traditional rivals Ananda by nine runs to regain the Dr. N. M. Perera memorial trophy in their 25th limited over cricket encounter played at the SSC grounds, Maitland Place yesterday.

It was a low scoring game with fluctuating fortunes. But it was the bowlers who called the tune and played a key role.

Electing to bat first, Nalanda were bowled out for 146 in 48.3 overs with only a top score of 31 by Niranjan Kumara. But they did well to defend that low total as Ananda were shot out for 137, ten runs short of their victory target with 7.3 overs remaining. Medium paceman Dilhan Jayasundara did most of the damage with a tight spell of 4 for 19.

Scores:

Nalanda: 146 all out in 48.3 overs (Dilhan Jayasundara 13, Mevan Porage 15, Amila Kiriella 13, M. Perera 18, Niranjan Kumara 31, Akalanka Ganegama 2 for 17, Muthumudalige Pushpakumara 3 for 21, Kasun Fernando 2 for 28).

Ananda: 137 all out in 42.2 overs (Lakshan Fernando 41, Maduranga Mallawarachchi 16, Muthumudalige Pushpakumara 29, Eshan Abeysinghe 17, Akalanka Ganegama 11, Dilhan Jayasundara 4 for 19, Maduranga Ranaweera 2 for 29).
