County Preview: Rhodes keeps role Charles Randall - 20 April 1999 Graeme Hick has returned from international duty and handed the Worcestershire captaincy to wicketkeeper Steve Rhodes as they prepare to take on Surrey at New Road today. Though Hick remains as vice-captain to Australian Tom Moody, who is unavailable until after the World Cup, he has suggested that Rhodes keeps the captaincy after he led the side at Durham last week. Worcestershire have Hick back from England duty in Sharjah, while all-rounder Gavin Haynes has overcome a back injury. Elliott Wilson, who scored a half-century against Durham, has returned to university, and Chris Liptrot is omitted. Surrey are in a similar position, with Mark Butcher retaining the captaincy despite the return of Adam Hollioake from international duty. England captain Alec Stewart and Graham Thorpe return to the side, with Nadeem Shahid, Jason Ratcliffe and Gary Butcher making way. Fixtures PPP County Championship 1st day of 4 (11am)
